The Dermal Filler of Choice For Non-Surgical BBL

September 6, 2021

In our blog we talked a lot about the benefits of Non-Surgical BBL, especially in those cases in which the patient does not have enough good quality fat to be transplanted to the gluteal area.

But this is not the subject that concerns us in this article. Here we wanted to talk about the product we use to perform the Non-Surgical BBL procedure or as it is technically known, Buttock Bioplasty.

We are very interested in clarifying doubts and busting the myths that have been spread around this fantastic dermal filler that successfully replaces human fat without suffering from resorption as fat does.

Let’s start then by describing the product and how it works.

It is a two-component hydrogel, hydroxyethylcellulose and perfectly pure and spherical microparticles of polymethylmethacrylate or PMMA, as it is known by its acronym.

These microparticles or microspheres are the active component of this substance since they have the property of stimulating fibroblasts, which are specialized cells of human tissues that under certain conditions produce the elements that constitute the connective tissue such as collagen, elastin and fibrin, among others. Connective tissue is responsible for giving structure, strength, support and vitality to the tissues that make up the various layers from the dermis to the muscles.

Hydroxyethylcellulose in turn has a dual purpose: on the one hand it provides transport and protection to the microspheres to their destination site within the tissues, in our case the gluteal tissues; on the other hand, it brings immediate volume to the area in order to allow the microspheres to fulfill their role as biostimulators of the fibroblasts, which is a slower process. Hydroxyethylcellulose biodegrades slowly while the patient’s own connective tissue grows organically.

We use the Brazilian FDA approved Linnea Safe dermal filler.

Myths have it that microspheres are similar to the water beads used in vases and pots to keep plants hydrated. Nothing could be more inaccurate. PMMA microspheres are microscopic and therefore invisible to the human eye. The size of the microspheres used in Linnea Safe dermal filler have a diameter that is half that of a human hair; we are talking about 40 microns, or 0.00157 inches. In addition, water beads inflate with water, while PMMA microspheres are inert to water.

We hope to have explained in general terms what the product we use in our medical practice is all about and invite all those who feel that conventional surgical BBL is not a viable option for them, to consult us and tell us about their case so that we can assess them and offer a professional medical opinion.
